State Farm - State Farm may drop our insurance. Help.
I have a long winded question. I want to preface this by saying I am not into fraud. I am a public employee and can’t have any issues related to that.
3 years ago we had a bad hail storm in the Chicago area. We have a close friend who is an adjuster for a roofing company. We coach our kids together and he tells me “hey do you want a new roof?” He tells me everyone is getting approved after the bad hail storm. I have zero experience with this so I said “of course.” I figured that’s why I pay insurance and this guy said it so non-chalantly so I agreed to it. He comes over, looks at the roof and submits a claim.
A week or two later he tells me that our insurance denied a new roof and only said they would cover $1,000 in repairs. In my mind it’s a win since we get repairs done.
Fast forward a year later and we have another hail storm. Our friend says to me “this time you will definitely get a new roof.” Again, we have no idea this is an issue. He looks at our roof and submits a claim. A week later we get a call from our agent and they tell us they are likely going to drop us. This is where my wife and I panic and wonder “what the hell is going on?” We get the insurance to stop the claim and somehow they do stop it and we don’t get dropped and don’t get the repairs done. So far no issues but still we are very worried about it.
Since then we have had a few roofing companies out and the prices are crazy. Like 12k just to repair and 25k to replace the whole roof.
My question is this: Would you recommend that we replace the roof on our dime? We have the money to do it. This is what I’m leaning towards but what happens if we have a really bad storm with significant damage? Does State Farm drop us but still have to pay for the damages or replacement? I don’t want to replace the roof, have significant damage, and then State Farm says nope you’re dropped and we aren’t paying?
OR, should I switch insurance companies before any work and then replace my roof anyway to lower the premium cost with a new insurance company?
Insurance prices are ridiculous right now but state farm is still lower than any other insurance company I have had quotes from.

Edit: I agree with all the comments that the guy screwed me. I am aware that the claims follow me. I need to find an honest person who can tell me if I really need a roof replacement. If not, I’m willing to ride it out until I do actually need a replacement. The thought of doing it now came because in 5 years we will have 2 in college and one in high school. We figured we would take the expense now rather than in a few years when money is a bit tighter. Still unsure of what we will do. I don’t think I need a new roof immediately but I know it will be in the next 5-10 years.
Embrace Pet Insurance - Embrace - SCAMMERS
I have been paying for Embrace Pet Insurance for nearly a year. I submitted a claim recently and apparently I was supposed to get my dogs an exam BEFORE the policy began. The dogs had an exam 16 days after the policy began. Now they are refusing to pay claims despite the fact that they happily took my money for the last year.
These people are scammers. Beware!
biBERK - Biberk workers comp. Increased premium after policy was cancelled.

I wanted to share my experience with biBERK workers' comp insurance and get some advice or feedback from others who may have dealt with something similar.
I had a workers' comp policy with biBERK that was fully paid and I canceled a few days before the expiration date. A few weeks after cancellation, I received an audit request. I didn’t fill out the forms right away, and shortly after, I got an email saying I owed around $500 as an estimated audit charge since the forms hadn’t been submitted.
I called biBERK to ask about it, and the agent told me that if I filled out the audit forms, they’d be able to issue a proper audit and adjust the premium based on actual payroll. I submitted the audit form the next day.
To my surprise, after submitting the audit, the amount due increased to $1,300.
I called again and was told I could submit a formal dispute, which I did. I explained that:
I’m a small business with only one employee on payroll.
The policy was canceled early, before the full term.
No claims were ever filed.
I submitted the audit forms in good faith expecting a fair adjustment—not a higher charge.
Today I received the outcome of the dispute, and they only reduced the bill by $77—so I still owe $1,223.
I’m feeling frustrated and a bit taken advantage of, especially since the audit estimate was originally much lower and I submitted accurate data as requested.
Has anyone dealt with something like this before? Is there any recourse or further steps I can take? I appreciate any advice or insight.
Healthy Paws - What insurance do you have for your elder pet and what are your premius?
I currently have Healthy Paws for my 4 year old (soon to be 5) dog. She has been with them since Dec of 2023, - almost 2 years - and my premiums have increased twice so far (once after the first year and then once again because I moved and I've never hit my deductible yet). My policy covers 80% with an unlimited payout and a $500 deductible. I currently pay $73 monthly but when I first got my policy it was \~$58.
I see a lot of posts on this forum about the premium increases from HP and it makes me nervous for the future, especially when dogs are hitting 10 and premiums are sky rocketing to unaffordable rates. My question: if you have an elder pet, what insurance do you have, how long have you been with them, what is your policy and how much do you pay?
I've found HP easy to deal with and I like having an unlimited policy, but the premium increases make me nervous. What insurance company has comparable policies that don't sky rocket their premiums as your pet gets older?
Embrace - Pet insurance that actually covers hereditary conditions?
I just dropped Embrace pet insurance. My dog has a soft palate and breathing problems which are hereditary. The woman on the phone said they do cover hereditary conditions as long as it wasn't something that was detected before the policy began or after the waiting period, because then it gets listed as a pre-existing condition, which no pet insurance covers. I'm so confused. If the condition is hereditary then of course it was detected early on. I've literally spent 10k on vet bills for my dog (who's only 10 months old) and I've never been reimbursed fot a single thing because everything she went in for is considering "pre-existing", whether its seizures, bladder issues, bowel obstruction, or anything related to breathing. She gets aspiration pneumonia like every 2 months because she throws up and then it goes back into her lungs and then I have to pay for x-rays and give her antibiotics. The waiting period for it to not be considered pre-existing is 180 days. That's just not possible in her case. Literally the only way I'd ever be reimbursed for anything is if she broke a leg or something. Is there any pet insurance that will cover hereditary health issues without listing them as pre-existing? Do I just go to a different vet and not give her insurance info from her previous vet or what? Her vet bills are becoming unaffordable at this point. Just at a loss of what to do. Anyone who can give me advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Healthy Paws - Are there any good pet insurance companies left?
Been with Healthy Paws for quite some time. They were great during the life of my senior dog that recently passed away. I have another senior dog whose rate just increased by an insane amount and have been debating whether or not I should keep paying it or just cancel and set that money aside. She does have pre existing conditions so unfortunately getting her on a different plan seems pointless.
I have a 8 year old cat with no pre existing conditions and a 10 month old dog. I would like to have them on pet insurance but I feel like every company I research there are some good reviews and then horrible reviews. Is pet insurance even worth it anymore? Does anyone have any good companies they would recommend? Thanks.
AAA - AAA house account issues
I've had AAA insurance (home/auto/umbrella/roadside assistance) for 10+ years. I liked my local office/agent who was responsive. A couple years ago she died of cancer and now I am a "house account". Since then it's been much harder to get timely responses from the local office when I need to update insurance needs - new cars, etc. I've handled this by calling corporate customer service if I can't make changes online myself. My question is I've heard being a house account is bad because the agents don't get compensated for helping you. Is this true?
your insurance company - My parked car was hit. Owner or Tow Company at fault?
This is a bit lengthy, but I would genuinely appreciate help figuring out this (apparently) complex and unusual situation.
My car was parked in a spot next to my house when it was damaged by a van. I happen to have video showing the entire thing, and there is no question that the door of the other vehicle caused the damage - police and insurance company have made that determination. Seems simple enough BUT my insurance company is suddenly all flippy floppy over who is at fault.
The van, which was disabled, was unloaded from a tow truck. While the owner of the van pushed the vehicle, the tow truck driver steered the van backwards from the bed of the truck into the parking spot next to mine. While he is steering and looking over his shoulder, the van’s driver’s door is open and grinds into the rear side of my car. Both of them pause when the door hits my car, looking at each other like “whoops… let’s pretend that didn’t happen”. Neither of them notice my camera, and they do no leave a note or contact the police. That is super rude and illegal, but not likely relevant to this post.
So, Henrico (VA) Police Officer files a report and says the tow truck driver is at fault. I assumed the owner of the van would be responsible, but two friends of mine who are attorneys also believe the tow company is responsible. When I contacted the towing company, they sent someone out who said they weren’t admitting fault, but if the company’s owner reviewed the video and saw that what I told them is indeed what happened, they would prefer to pay out of pocket rather than go through insurance. Not once did they say anything about it possibly being the van owner’s responsibility. My initial communication with my insurance company supported what everyone else said: the towing company is responsible. Their next step was to contact them and get their insurance information.
After not hearing back from them for several weeks, I called this afternoon and asked for an update. The first person I spoke with said it looked like my adjuster had only done one thing since my claim was filed: type a note stating the towing company uses the same auto insurance company that I do. She looked through all of the evidence I’d submitted and, after viewing the video, she said she didn’t understand why this had not already been resolved. She then gave me the phone number for my adjuster’s manager.
I get ahold of the manager and I asked her to please let me know what’s going on, and if there was at least a new claim against the towing company in motion. She said “I think this needs to go through the van owner’s insurance. The tow company’s insurance isn’t going to pay this claim”.
She said she’ll call me when she’s had time to thoroughly review the claim.
I would love thoughts from anyone who has worked in auto insurance, has had a similar experience, is a professional or recreational attorney, loves deciphering motor and insurance laws, or is just hella good at navigating these issues.

State Farm - Is this normal?
State Farm raised my insurance from $180 a month to $340 over the span of 6 months. Very little and random explanations. My car is 10 years old, it’s insane. P.s. anyone know of good and not stupid expensive insurance in Los Angeles?
Progressive - confused with 'initial estimate' and how it works
so long story short, i was side swiped the lady who hit me admitted it was her fault.
i filed a claim with her insurance and they called me and sent me a link to an app to submit photos of the damage. the damage is scratches and dents on whole passenger side of my truck, along with damages on the wheel.
i get a call the next day stating they went over the 'initial estimate' value at $330.87 lol, i took it a body shop to get an estimate for all damages and i got a quote for $9,800..
a little confused how the initial estimate works, i called my adjuster but they do such a poor job explaining it to me as you can sense english is not their first language and when i ask what that means they just repeat and read the statement to me.
its the first time i have ever been in this kind of situation, can anyone help me? i have been stressing, but was blown away when they quoted me for $330 to repaint, and do body work and buy a new wheel on $80,000 truck.
