Progressive - Necessary to pay $150 fee and forfeit plate? Commercial Auto Insurance in Florida
I pay an arm and a leg for commercial auto insurance for a child care related business. I have 6 vehicles that I'm charged around $4500/yr per vehicle (yes I've shopped this several times, no there aren't better rates available, very few companies will even write policies for this industry). We don't use the vehicles at all in summer so they just sit in a parking lot. In years gone by, I've been able to drop the insurance during those months to "seasonal coverage" which basically means they are comprehensive only, and have no liability insurance because they are not being driven. Progressive has no problem with this. This ended up saving me about $2000/mo for 2,5 months, all in, or about $5000.
I tried to do that for this year and I got an angry letter from the State of Florida saying that I need to forfeit my plates and pay a $150 reinstatement fee for each vehicle because I've "dropped my insurance". I've never gotten this letter before. Is there any way around that? Does this mean that I'm stuck paying liability insurance on vehicles that never see the road?
Progressive - Need umbrella policy to protect assets but don't own a home in the state I reside. I live with an elderly parent with dementia.
I recently sold some commercial property and I'm looking for an umbrella policy or a large liability policy.
My problem is I live in a home that belongs to my 88 year old mom with severe dementia. The home is in a life estate deed to me, I've cared for my mom a long time, I have no claim to the home until she passes away.
We suffered significant hurricane damage, now seven months post hurricane repairs are just starting. I had to move my mom out of state with a sibling and mom is so frail she will never be able to return to her home. I am currently on the homeowners policy with my mom but expect there's going to be a problem with the current insurance company at renewal. My mom is out of state and I have no real rights to the home yet. My brother and I have POA but can't sign the deed over to me because mom has only social security and is going to need Medicaid soon. Medicaid does a five year look back. The home she owns is a mobile home, nice but not of great value. It's been in the enhanced life estate deed to me for many years. I do have a vacation home out of state, not a primary residence.
I have Progressive car insurance. I called the company associated with them and they question the liability on my mom's home. I don't know if I will even have insurance on that home soon. I would need to raise my car insurance above 100,000/300,000 and the umbrella policy would be $900 a year.
This policy seemed to depend on raising the liability insurance on my mom's home, possibility with a renters insurance policy, but that was questionable. I send money to my brother to help pay her care but it's not rent, she would then owe income tax on that and could be considered in kind help with medicaid.
There must be others who don't own a home in the state they reside who have significant assets. I've never been in this position before.
Can someone in the insurance industry advise how I can purchase a large liability policy?
Progressive - Why would I not get my full pip coverage?
I have $2500 in pip coverage and over $30k in medical bills. I’ve only gotten $900 in pip coverage. My lawyer said that is the offer from progressive. Why would I not get the full pip amount? I’ve also lost over $30k in income but my attorney won’t submit income loss.
Progressive - Progressive scammed me
I got auto insurance through progressive and was given a good quote so I sent in all the info I needed and got insured. I then bundled my home insurance because the price was so good. A month after that the auto insurance got canceled. They said that my license was not valid. When I asked for proof of this they said they had none. The state had just notified them that it was invalid. My license is valid and I even recently got a notification letter from the state to renew my license because it expires later this year. Now my only option was to start another policy with them and this quote was more than double what my original quote was. I feel like I got scammed to switch over.
Progressive - Why does Progressive want me to pay more for no coverage.
Progressive - Progressive Snapshot
Hello,
I'm new to having car insurance, when I enrolled progressive the asked me to enroll in snapshot to get "an special discount" after signing up and realizing the app had to run always on the background I deactivated it. The thing is I've been getting emails from them saying reactivate it to keep your discount. Is it really worth it to have it activated? I've seen some people saying their rate actually went up by having it on.
Progressive - Progressive Diminished Value Claim
Progressive offered me $750 for diminished value based on costs they incurred for the claim. They did not even consider the actual cash value of the vehicle. For context, this is in Texas and the claim was made on the other parties insurance and I was found at no fault. The car is a brand new BMW M2 and the total repairs estimated around $4-$5k including labor. There’s definitely more than $750 of diminished value since this is a performance car and now has an incident on the car fax.
According to the representative, they are not willing to offer more even if I get an estimate of the actual cash value. Do I have any options outside of just accepting what I was given?
Progressive - Insurance broker misunderstood Progressive auto quote, telling me a different price, which Progressive deemed ineligible
Hi guys,
I am a foreigner who arrived to the US last year due to work. I had auto insurance for 4-5 months and wanted to change and see if I could get something cheaper.
In March I finally found one who could half my monthly insurance cost which we settled the same day.
The broker confirmed all details that I am a foreigner, with an international license, 7 years driving experience OUTSIDE the US.
2 weeks ago, Progressive sends me an e-mail that a automatic payment will be made in April of $1107. I had no clue what this was, as the broker told me the cost would be $106 monthly.
I immediately call Progressive and they inform med that the broker most likely inserted incorrect information or misunderstood how to fill out their quoting system. They also tell me, that they send me physical mail to my address that the insurance was not eligible and the policy was updated to reflect my correct details. But I am yet to receive this mail, which according to them was sent the day after I approved the quote I was sent.
What concerns me a lot…
- Why did Progressive not send anything in regards to this change?
- only my State ID was given to the broker and as I understand with my prior insurance company, they require my international- and foreign driver’s license to insure me
- can they update it without me confirming/agreeing to this change?
I have called and mailed the broker which is yet to answer and pending their response.
What do you do, in this case?

Progressive - Progressive Home Owners insurance Questions
Question, we filed a claim on our house in 2023 due to damage from a wind storm. There was damage to the siding on one side. It was repaired but the siding didn't match and my state has a matching clause. Progressive paid a supplement amount to have the whole house sided based on an estimate from our contractor and then told us basically that's it, we are done you don't have to show proof of repair like we are done. The contractor we had then said that wasn't enough to cover what he needed to complete the job, so we paid him for the repairs he completed and made sure everything was good, we then utilized the balance of the left over insurance to make some updates/ repairs to our property since the amount wasn't enough to finish the full siding of our house. Fast forward to a month ago we had a major hailstorm and it obliterated our siding, roof, gutters, etc and progressive is saying they will not replace the siding again since they paid out a claim previously to do a full siding.
Are they able to do that? I can't find anything in my insurance contract that says we had to utilize that money for repairs ok that specific item and the repairs to the siding were done they just didn't match our siding completely.
Progressive - Gap + Auto Insurance, Totaled Car
So the story goes: My friend in Texas totaled his car by hitting a mailbox. He has Gap insurance from the dealership, and auto insurance from progressive.
Auto insurance agent told him they're going to pay the dealership instead of him.
Can friend demand direct payment to himself, as the policyholder? Can his insurance just send the check somewhere else like that?
The gap insurance should handle everything on the dealership side, so I don't know why his insurance company would be giving the dealership anything.
