Embrace - Can I switch with pre-existing conditions?
I have 2 dogs, 7 and 6 years old. They both have had some issues with lower back pain and suspected arthritis but not diagnosed. I got an email notifying me of my embrace insurance premium going to almost double! Can I switch insurance despite them being this old and having received physical therapy? Or are they pre-existing conditions that will prevent a new insurer from writing a new policy?
Embrace - Weird Pet Insurance Dilemma
Hi all, I am in need of advice. I'm not sure if this is the most appropriate place to ask.
Ive had Embrace insurance for my two kitties for a year now. For one cat, it's amazing. For the other, Daisy, it's been kind of a nightmare. I had to increase her coverage midway through which restarted the medical review. That was my first big mistake, because while I knew it would come back with a temporary exclusion of a one time ear infection, I did not expect a permanent exclusion for ALL SKIN MASSES including cancer.
Now, yes she has a small polyp on her outer ear that has never been diagnosed officially. It has been told to me by multiple vets that it's not a big deal and to leave it alone since shes had it since she was 2 and it was harmless. So when I saw that exclusion, I went through her medical records and found that I mentioned to the technician that she had a "growth" in her ear that was not impacting the ear infection, and my statement was put on the official medical records despite the veterinarian never putting it on her notes or as a diagnosis. She had one diagnosis: ear infection.
A two month long appeal process would ensue where no one asked me anything despite me sending my specific concerns via email to the vet about wanting it known to the insurance it's not a cancerous mass, it's a polyp and it should not exclude all forms of cancer. The insurance would only speak to the vet who obviously had more important things to do than to deal with insurances, so it took forever for this process to come to a conclusion. The vet had no record of the mass, other than my statement to the technician, and ultimately that's what she told the insurance: There is no diagnosis of a mass and she has never noticed one on my cat. The insurance concluded that the mass didn't exist and officially documented the rescinded exclusion.
My next mistake: I didn't say anything after because who would?? After a nonstop, 2 month, constant back and forth to get everyone to work together, there was a solution so I shut up and let it go for peace of mind.
Now I feel absolutely f*cked because the polyp needs to be removed because she wont leave it alone and its turned into a deep cut that doesnt heal. The technician today wrote that she's had it since she was two and it's officially been diagnosed. Its a benign polyp, it's been biopsied after the appeal. Im so afraid to keep her insurance or submit a claim now in case im now "withholding information" or being fraudulent. I never denied she had a mass, I just denied it was anything more than a polyp and that's what I was trying to fight.
What do I do??? She gets it removed tomorrow. Im afraid this being found in her medical records will impact future claims and I won't be able to move forward with removing any other temporary exclusions like the ear infections. I also have another cat on the policy who really needs insurance and im scared if they drop her, they'll drop him too.
If you got to the end, thank you for reading this š©·
Embrace Pet Insurance - Embrace Pet Insurance DENIED Neurological brain scan because of "pre-existing" itchy skin
Ok, this is absolutely insane to me but coming here to see if anyone has any advice or thinks I'm overreacting.
My dog's TLDR background:
* almost 2 years old, GSD mix with cattle dog, pit, husky
* has been exhibiting some intense anxiety (can't take him on walks) and sensitivity to noises (these send him into a panic)
* our trainer noticed he had a head tremor when he was about 5 months old, but my husband and I never noticed it, neither did our first two vets. Our current vet noticed it + an eye tremor about two months ago and recommended we see a neurologist and get an MRI
* Thankfully the MRI showed a normal brain but it did show an inner ear infection
The MRI was almost $5k. I submitted it to Embrace and they DENIED it because they are saying his inner ear infection is related to his itchy skin that he had when we rescued him at 6 weeks old, and therefore falls under his pre-existing condition. The MRI wasn't to identify the ear infection, that's just something that happened to show up. The MRI was for his brain health to see if we could determine why his behavior has gotten so anxious and he's started showing aggression.
I've included screenshots of their "reasoning" and it seems absolutely crazy to me.
Has anyone experienced something similar or have advice on how to proceed?
Embrace - Pet insurance experience discussions
Today I bit the bullet and got Embrace. My mom has spot for her animals but only accident and illness. I chose embrace because it was a little better financially and would cover wellness exams.
I wanted to see everyoneās opinions on different insurances. I get the impression that many donāt like embrace which is a little worrying to be honest, but Iām going to wait and see how I like them after I get my dogs anual done.
Sheās older and I just wanted her to be covered by something before I bring her in. Seeing that most if not all of the insurances will not cover anything preexisting.
I did ask about a preexisting condition in my dog (torn ACLs) and if it would be covered since that hasnāt been an issue for years. The lady I talked to said that since it has been an issue in over 12 months it would be fine, which I found pretty surprising tbh.
She explained it like - if your dog had a belly ache 3 years ago and it came back thatās something theyād cover. But if it was a chronic thing before you started insurance then no.
EMBRACE Pet Insurance - EMBRACE Pet Insurance Increased Annual Rate 55%!!!!
I have had embrace for 10 years on my dog and cage and have had claims and have a 90% Reimbursement Rate they are awesome . Over the years rate increase were always as expected .I just got my Renewal and it sky rocketed from $220 a month to $340! Any one else experiencing a dramatic rate increase?
Embrace pet insurance - Embrace pet insurance increased my Annual Rate 55%!
I have had Embrace pet insurance for my dog and cat for 10 years and they have always been Awesome and I have a 90% Reimbursement Rate on covered claims . They have covered many claims and have helped alot . I do pay a hefty monthly price to have this peace of mind. Iām use to an annual increase thatās incremental but a 55% jump from 220 a month is just outlandish in my opinion to 340 a month now . Have you experienced a High Rate Increase also?
Embrace - Thinking of switching pet insurance
Renewal time is coming up soon and realized I never changed our address since we recently moved back to NY after living in RI. Well itās going from $36 for my 5 year old cat to $60 a month. Overall sheās a very healthy kitty, the only health issue is she has asthma so I get that and I know as they get older itās more costly cause of healthcare for them and providing services is expensive. Embrace has been great overall experience for us because we had to put one of our other cats down last year and they compensated us almost entirely but, I just wasnāt expecting because of the zip code to justify $60 every month now. Does anyone have any suggestions on our insurances if Iād be saving money elsewhere?
Embrace - Embrace raises rates every year.
So I've had Embrace for a year now, and just discovered my monthly rate went up a whopping 40%. So I called them, and they said they raise rates for ALL policy holders on average 25-35% every single year.
Ive had no claims. No changes in anything whatsoever. My dog is only 1 year older, now years old.
There have been no changes in my state, and they can't attribute it to inflation.
So screw that. I don't see how thats even legal to raise that much each year. That means in 4 years, I'd be paying more for mediocre pet insurance on 1 dog, than I pay for all of my insurances combined.
Embrace Pet Insurance - Embrace pet insurance
Going through Reddit before I got my Italian greyhound puppy, I came to the conclusion that dog insurance was a NECESSITY with this breed. I did a lot of comparing companies as well as reading reviews of each company with different scenarios and decided on embrace.
I currently pay ~$70/month and itās been so worth it for me!
Deductible of $250/year with 90% reimbursement afterwards.
Well my Finn boy fractured his leg and we were devastated and overwhelmed by the guilt/fear/etc. We went straight to the ER and found out he needed surgery to have it repaired. (~$6,000). By reading the contracts and stipulations of the insurance agreement I knew it would be covered and there was no way we could have afforded it without insurance.
It did take a lot of hassle on my end. I had to call them several times to get my claim moving. I had to submit all of his documents (several different times). After calling a 4th time and them claiming they did not get the documents I ended up emailing the records to them as well. My claims were then put on āholdā due to insufficient documentation. I was at my wits end trying to come up with anything else they could possibly need. I called again explaining absolutely everything and the worker put notes into the file and sent it back to the adjusters. FINALLY a couple of days later (1 month total of waiting) I finally got reimbursed š„³.
It was such a shit show but I was so relieved that it covered basically everything. My only complaint is that if you donāt pester them they donāt get anything done. The workers told me that the first claim always takes the longest to process and the next ones should only take a week or less. I hope thatās the case- hahah!
Embrace Pet Insurance - Embrace Pet Insurance Premium Increased by 84%
Hi,
Curious if anyone else has had this issue. From what Iāve read online, it seems to be a general theme with pet insurance and I donāt think I have any rights or avenues to pursue to do anything about it.
I have had Embrace pet insurance to cover my 3 pets since December of 2020. My insurance premiums renewals for my pets, that I still have the records for have been:
Dec. 2022: $112.90
Dec. 2023: $133.49
Dec. 2024: $245.76
My pets are obviously getting older from when I initially took the policy. Current ages:
Cat (6)
Cat (10)
Dog (8)
Their rationale for increasing my premium is cost of vet bills increasing, my ātenureā (Iāve had embrace 5 years therefore my pets have likely developed āpre existing conditionsā that would not be covered if I was a new policy holder which means more money they have to pay to now cover these conditions), and the pets age.
I understand things increase year over year, Iām hung up on the fact that my rate has almost doubled in a single year. I was going to file a complaint with the state insurance commissioner, but it doesnāt seem that they are technically violating any laws.
I feel like I canāt switch companies because my pets have āpre existing conditionsā that wonāt be covered at a new place but at $300/ month I might as well save my money and pay the vet bills out of pocket.
I found online that Embrace was sold to JAB Holding company for $1.5 billion dollars in 2023. So I donāt think my premiums are going up so Embrace can keep the lights on.
If you have any advice, I am all ears. If you donāt have advice, take this as a recommendation to avoid Embrace pet insurance at absolutely all costs.
